Florence is a historical city of great value, people from all over the world come here to visit the monuments and churches. The town is bustling with tourists and locals in the peak months of tourism. People usually walk to see the monuments and attractive places, however, when they have to travel to farther off places like the Arno river. Tram was introduced as a convenient and seamless way to travel across Florence. Before the arrival of modern trams Florence was home to some tram networks early in the 19th century, but they were closed in the mid 19th century. After the closure, Florence started building its new Tram line, which was completed in early 2010s. The new trams were more traffic efficient and pollution free.

Florence Tram Tickets

Florence trams provide affordable and reliable public transport across Florence. A single ticket for tram costs around €1.50 which is valid for 90 minutes from validation. These tickets can be availed from Tabacchi shops, News-stands, automatic ticket vending machine and AT-official ticket office. Tabacchi shops sell tram tickets, you can identify these shops as they have a big T written outside of them. It is most convenient and hassle-free. News-stands in Florence also sell tram tickets and for the ease of the public there are ticket vending machines from which you can obtain a ticket. Finally, you can buy a ticket from the metro station itself, you can choose whatever way you can find best suited to your needs. If you’re planning on taking multiple tram rides in Florence, consider the Agile 10 Card. This handy option is a magnetic card preloaded with 10 individual 90-minute journeys. Another benefit of this card is that it can be shared among travelers, making it a cost-effective choice for groups. For just €14 (around £11.80), you can all enjoy convenient travel on the Florence tram network.

Florence has two tram lines, so it is relatively easy to get around the city in an eco-friendly way. T1’s length is 11.5 kilometers from Scandicci to the Santa Maria Novella train station, which are very central spots in Florence. Line T2 is 5.4 kilometers long, getting visitors from the airport to the Santa Maria Novella; in the near future, the line will further stretch through the city center. Both lines operate from 5:30 a.m. to midnight, with high-frequency trams (every 3–4 minutes during peak hours). Tickets are sold in news-stands, in any automatic machine, or in offices of AT; the single ticket is valid for 90 minutes from the time of validation.

Florence Tram Schedule

The trams of Florence provide convenient traveling throughout the day. T1 and T2 lines run from 5:30 in the morning up until midnight to make your journeys comfortable. Trams often run in peak hours, so you will need just 3–4 minutes to wait for one. Then, if you are going to get somewhere in the evening or at night, trams go by every 12 minutes.
